“If a colleague were to say, ‘I am struggling

Client Success Story – Verst Group
Logistics
Summary:
Verst Group Logistics implemented Pathway’s Strategy Mapping process
in order to get back to its core mission of efficiently executing its customers’
logistics needs.
Background:
Since 1968, Verst Group Logistics has been a regional family owned business,
now led by 2nd generation Paul Verst. It provides superior, third-party
supply-chain management, including warehousing, transportation, and packaging
services, all designed to simplify “customers’ logistics world.”
Verst was no stranger to strategic planning, having completed 6 different
plans over the last 15 years.
Problem:
Ironically, the long-term nature of these plans led to disagreements over
the company’s priorities. These in turn led Verst Group’s leadership
team away from the qualities that had made them successful in the past.
Having recently brought in three new members to its senior leadership team
also amplified the need for a clearer definition of the strategic direction
and a stronger commitment to the company’s core values.
Pathway Guidance Solution:
Verst’s leaders knew they needed to get the company back on track,
and real solutions came when Pathway helped the team implement a 3-year
plan supported by a 1-year plan to increase accountability within the organization
and keep it focused on its core strategic advantage: focusing on the customer.
Using Pathway’s proven practices for clarity of direction setting,
annual priorities, and alignment of talent, Verst was able to apply better
methods to measure long- and short-term success. These changes were supported
by a more quantitative performance management system, Starway Services,
which allowed the company’s mission to cascade from leadership all
the way down to customer service representatives. “Either you hit
the goal or you don’t hit the goal now,” states Paul Verst,
CEO, referring to the improved individual accountability within Verst Group.
Outcome:
A shorter, 3-year strategy plan and realignment of leadership brought
a renewed commitment to values throughout the company’s organization,
better positioning Verst for continued long-term success in the logistics
business. “We got the best results out of Pathway we could possibly
get. They help companies plan better for the future,” says Paul Verst.
Today, Verst Group continues to use the tools put in place with Pathway
Guidance’s help, ensuring a common vision for the future of the company.
Paul Verst continued, saying, “If a colleague were to say, ‘I
am struggling with where we are going and how to get there,’ I’d
recommend Pathway Guidance.” |
